Population
Adolescents admitted to the program typically suffer from mild to moderate emotional disturbances and may have psychiatric diagnoses such as depression, ADHD, post-traumatic stress disorder, and/or anxiety/mood disorders from their childhood. Many have significant issues with their family of origin, and most have experienced prior victimization. Many of the admission candidates lack adequate life skills and require education/training in independent living skills. Adolescents referred to the program have a history of experiencing traumatic life events and have subsequently begun to exhibit acting out behaviors.
Eligibility
DTA does not treat clients that have experienced/are experiencing the following emotional disturbances:
• Fire setting history
• Active psychosis
• Clients that have a primary diagnosis of chemical dependency
• Clients who exhibit sociopathic tendencies and lack adequate remorse and a commitment to treatment involvement
• History of multiple runaways from home or other treatment environments
